Samsung Lions’ Ryu Ji-hyuk (30) was injured while attempting to steal second base and was taken to the hospital. After an MRI examination, he was diagnosed with partial damage to the labrum of his shoulder joint.

Ryu Ji-hyeok started as the No. 7 hitter and second baseman against the LG Twins in the 2024 Shinhan Sol Bank KBO League at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul on Sunday.

In the top of the second inning, Ryu led off with an infield single to shortstop. He then attempted to steal second base and shortstop Oh Ji-hwan tried to tag him out, but a collision occurred and Ryu was unable to get up, complaining of pain in his left collarbone.

Ryu will undergo a second examination at Sejong Sports Orthopedics, a shoulder specialist, on Aug. 28 for a more accurate diagnosis.

Ryu had been hitting well, batting .400 with three RBIs in three games prior to this game. The loss of the star infielder has been a setback for Samsung since the start of the season.
