SEOUL, Aug. 28 (Yonhap) – Eight promising Korean weightlifters, including Nam Ji-yong (18-Gyeongbuk Development Corporation) and Kim Hyo-en (20-Korea Gymnastics University), left for India on Monday to compete in the 2023 Asian Junior Weightlifting Championships. The tournament kicked off on that day in Delhi, India, and will run through Aug. 5. Youth competitions were held earlier in the tournament, and the Korean athletes departed on the opening day. The Korean junior team consisted of men’s sportstotozone 81kg So Ji Sub (19-Asan City Hall), 96kg Cha Byung Joon (19-Shinsung University), 102kg Jung Hee Joon (20-Goyang City Hall), 109kg Nam Ji-yong, women’s 59kg Han Ji-hye (19-Gyeongbuk Development Corporation), 76kg Park Soo Min (20-Korea Gymnastics), 87kg Kim Soo Ah (18-Incheon Mirae Life High School), and 87kg Kim Hyoeon. Nam finished third overall at the Asian Junior Championships in Tashkent last year. He will be aiming for a podium finish. Kim finished second overall at the 2022 World Junior Championships behind Park Hye-jung. With Park not competing at the Asian Junior Championships, she could challenge for the title.
