Real Madrid has identified a successor to Daniel Carvajal, 31.
“Real president Florentino Perez wants Leith James to succeed Carvajal,” Spanish media outlet Fichajes reported on Friday (April 25).
Carvajal is considered an integral part of the Real team. In addition to his 377 career appearances, he has won five Champions League titles and three La Liga titles, making him a part of the club’s history.
The passage of time has not been kind to him. Carvajal began to show signs of rapid aging last season. As his mistakes became more frequent, calls for a replacement grew louder.
A number of players have been linked with a move to Real. Kyle Walker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Jeremy Frimpong have been specifically mentioned.
It seems unlikely that Carvajal’s successor will be brought in this summer. Real coach Carlo Ancelotti told a press conference, “There will be no further signings. We have completed the construction of the squad.”
The next generation of right-backs is targeted for next year. According to the report, Real are planning to make a bid for James, who has the backing of president Perez, in 2024.
James deserves to be at Real. Despite being injury prone, he is a solid defender and an accurate crosser. This 먹튀검증 season, he was named Chelsea captain for his leadership.
His signing is not expected to be easy. As the outlet notes, “Chelsea have James under contract until 2026. Real must be prepared to spend a significant transfer fee.”
