National Basketball Association (NBA) superstar LeBron James has signed a new contract with the Los Angeles Lakers to play for the same team as his son.

“James will waive his existing contract with the Lakers, which is worth $51.4 million for the 2024-2025 season, and sign a new deal worth up to $162 million (about 224 billion won) over three years,” ESPN and other U.S. sports media reported on Tuesday.

“James wants to see the Lakers get stronger,” James’ agent, Rich Paul, said, “and he’s willing to take less money if the Lakers make a major acquisition.”

James, 39, is a four-time NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) and the first player in NBA history to surpass 40,000 points. He is a 20-time All-Star and has averaged 27.1 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.4 assists in 1,492 regular-season games.

If James re-signs with the Lakers, he will become the first “father-son player” in NBA history with his son, LeBron James, who was drafted by the Lakers as a rookie.

Brony is James’ first son, whom he had when he was 20 years old.

“Brodie will wear the No. 9 jersey with the name ‘James Jr.’ on the back,” the Lakers said in a statement. 메이저놀이터
