South Korean men’s fencer Oh Sang-wook has won gold at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
On Aug. 28 (KST), Oh defeated Tunisian Fares Ferzani 15-11 in the men’s individual sabre final at the Grand Palais in Paris, France.
It was the first gold medal for the entire Korean team at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Earlier, Park Ha-joon and Ban Ban-hyun won silver in the 10-meter mixed air rifle event, while Kim Woo-min won bronze in the men’s 400-meter freestyle.
Oh was previously eliminated in the quarterfinals at Tokyo 2021, but in Paris, he became the first Korean men’s sabre athlete to reach an individual Olympic final and won gold.
Oh won individual gold medals at the 2019 World Championships, the 2019 and 2024 Asian Championships, and the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, making him the first South Korean fencer to win the “individual grand slam” of major international events.
South Korean fencing has now won five consecutive Olympic medals since the 2008 Beijing Games.
Born in 1996, Oh Sang-wook is currently a member of the Daejeon Metropolitan Government. He has appeared in numerous entertainment programs, including tvN’s “Racket Boys,” JTBC’s “My Brother-in-Law,” SBS’s “Butler’s Wife,” “Stone Singing Man Without Shoes,” MBC’s “I Live Alone,” and “It’s Good to Not Fight,” and is loved as an all-around entertainer. 메이저사이트
