Fluminense (Brazil) have won the Copa Libertadores, the trophy for the strongest club in South America .Fluminense beat Boca Juniors (Argentina) 2-1 in the final of the Copa Libertadores 2023 at the Maracanã State Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on 5 May .With the victory, Fluminense won the Copa Libertadores for the first time since the club’s inception in 1902.Brazilian teams have also dominated the competition since 2019, reaffirming their status as South America’s most dominant team. In 2018, Argentine side River Plate won the title, followed by Flamengo in 2019 and Palmeiras in 2020 and 2021.In 2022, Flamengo reclaimed the title, and from 2020 to 2022, the final was played between Brazilian teams. With the score tied at 1-1, Fluminense’s John Kennedy scored the winning goal in the ninth minute of second-half stoppage time.
All seven teams that will compete in this year’s FIFA Club World Cup have now been confirmed. South America will be represented by Fluminense, while Europe will be represented by UEFA Champions League winners Manchester City (England).In Asia, Urawa Reds (Japan), Africa’s Al Ahly (Egypt) and North and Central America’s León (Mexico) have confirmed their places at the Club World Cup, while Oceania’s Auckland City (New Zealand) and hosts Saudi Arabia’s Al Ittihad are among the seven teams vying for the Club World Cup crown.
