Tottenham Hotspur’s first signing of next summer’s transfer window is all but confirmed. The transfer will happen if Spurs use the option they have been given. It’s a €25 million (£20.8 million, $37.5 million) option to prioritize a player. Tottenham’s most pressing need is a defensive midfielder.

“Tottenham are confident of signing a £20.8 million player at the end of the season,” British outlet TBRFootball reported on Sept. 30 (ET). They just need to trigger the option already reserved. It’s an option that could upgrade Spurs even further.

Spurs are in eighth place this season, with a patchy offense. Their offense is good. Through nine rounds of play, they have scored 18 goals, which is about two goals per game. Only Manchester City (20) and Chelsea (19) have scored more goals than Tottenham in the English Premier League (EPL) in the 2024-2025 season.

But while City is first in the league and Chelsea is fifth, Spurs is eighth. They’re also tied for the fourth-fewest goals conceded (10). This is a result of their inconsistent, up-and-down form.

To stabilize their colors, they need a player who can play steady defense in the middle of the park. Coincidentally, Tottenham already have the option to bring in this type of player. Johnny Cardoso, 23, is a talented defensive midfielder from Real Betis of the Spanish Primera Liga.

TBRFootball, citing a report from ABC Sevilla, 토토사이트 said that “Real Betis are confident that Tottenham will sign a deal to transfer Cardoso before July 2025.

This is because an option agreement has already been reached between the two clubs.

When Spurs sold Giovani Lo Celso to Real Betis for £8.4 million in August, they included an option to buy Cardoso for £25 million. Spurs would have to trigger the option before July 1, 2025, if they want to sign the U.S. international. ‘Real Betis insiders are confident Tottenham will sign Cardoso,’ ABC Sevilla reported.

It’s interesting to note that Cardoso is a member of the U.S. national team and is coached by former Tottenham manager and current U.S. national team coach Mauricio Pochettino. Spurs currently lack a traditional-style defensive midfielder like Cardoso. He’s the type of player who can stabilize a game, which is exactly what Spurs need with their power imbalance.
